It’s Not Just A Phase.

Welcome to the tail end of the Astrological Year, also known as The Dark Sun Phase. You may have some understanding of why it’s Magical to align your Self with the phases of The Moon but did you know this is an excellent time of year to align your Self with the Phases of The Sun?

Wait, The Sun Has Phases? Yes, The Sun has phases, similar to the Moon's phases; energetically at least. Obviously, the Sun’s phases are not generated in the same way the Moon's phases are but they have similar Magical impacts and potentials. The Sun Phases are best understood in a more abstract way rather than a literal way like we can do with The Moon’s phases.

The reason for this abstraction is the celestial mechanics of our Universe. We don’t all see The Sun’s phases in the same way see The Moon’s phases. However, some of us see a change in the quality or duration of sunlight during the annual cycle; this depends on where you live. The closer you get to the equator the less you’re able to "see" the phases IRL however we’re all sensitive to its cycle.

What Is The Dark Sun Phase? The Dark Sun is similar to The Dark Moon. It is about endings (death) and letting go of the things that aren't meant for us anymore. This is a time for big ShadowWeRK.

During The Dark Sun, we’re often able to end and/or release bigger things. It is also about tending the connection between doing our personal, interpersonal, and collective ShadowWeRK. This intersection of ShadowWeRK makes it an important tool for Sweet Disruption, revolution, and healing.

The Sun moved from Scorpio to Sagittarius at 6:09 pst on November 22, 2023.

Sagittarius Season is the last season of the Astrological Year… well, at least according to my Magical/Astrological Practice. 

Why? 

Because The New Sun arrives on the Winter Solstice, when The Light Returns to guide us thru Winter and into Spring. 

Yes, it seems counter to what we “know” and I think that's intentional. When the mysterious thing that gave birth to colonization, patriarchy, capitalism, white supremacy, and all the other heads of the Hydra occurred it decided that the best way to control the populous was to completely disconnect them from nature. 

If we believe that the year starts in Spring then we are disconnected from the power of the moment that the Darkness turns into Light and that Lightness turns into Dark. 

The darkest day of the year is the day before The Sun moves into Capricorn. Once that happens the Light begins to return. This is the “new year”. And then they shifted the dates of what we know as the “new year” to a few days later, again just to disconnect the solar ancestors from the cycles of The Sun.

Yes, there are lots of ancestors and all of them followed different cycles and worshipped different cycles. If this cycle doesn't align for you, that's okay. Follow any cycle that works for you. This one is how I frame my cycles. It's how I merge the Magical with the Astrological. 

This is also easier if you live in the Northern portion of the Northern Hemisphere. If you live in the Southern Hemisphere you'd be having this experience in Cancer Season.

Another invitation I have for all of us during Sagittarius Season is to reevaluate our holiday celebrations/rituals, especially as we're being forced to sit and watch a genocide and ethnic cleansing occur in Palestine. 

This can be a very challenging thing for us and I am sensitive to that BUT y'all should know by now that I've chosen the path of the Challenger. It is my purpose to keep bringing uncomfortable WeRK forward. My hope is that all of us with find a better relationship with being uncomfortable. My hope is that we will see the challenge and discomfort as an opportunity for Sweet Disruption.
